One-by-one Caught Albacore, Yellowfin, & Skipjack Tuna Mercury Levels are well below U.S. and International food safety standards. American Tuna Inc, creators of Fishin’ Families, harvests tuna near the surface of the ocean using the low impact and time-tested “one-by-one” methods. Younger tuna are naturally low in mercury. From an overall nutritional standpoint, tuna is more diverse in its nutrient content than many people would suspect. It is a source of vitamin B3 (niacin), B1 (thiamine) and B6 (pyridoxine) as well as the minerals phosphorus, potassium, and magnesium. Tuna is a good source of protein and also a valuable source of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, as well as the antioxidant mineral selenium. The FDA has established a safe mercury level in tuna at or below 1.0 (one) part per million (ppm). The international standard is even more rigorous at 0.5 (one-half) ppm. Our tuna are tested by an independent lab to ensure it is well below these standards. Testing has confirmed mercury levels are <0.3 ppm in all our species. Fishin’ Families’ albacore are tested both at a fishery and finished product level. The American Albacore Fishing Association (AAFA) also tests albacore catches annually for mercury content – the Fishin’ Families brand sources all of their albacore tuna from AAFA.
